Pismo Beach Update
September 2011
Hello!
Happy Labor Day!! We hope you all have a safe and happy holiday celebrating your hard work!
As usual we are featuring local business recommendations, useful tips & tricks, ideas and advice that might assist you in your day-to-day living in our community. All of these articles are our own experiences and opinions, so take them with a grain of salt. :)
Thank you, have a wonderful Week!
Service Professional: Osty Insurance Agency
Linda Osty has been a cornerstone in our community for decades -- even recently recognized as such this year by the Arroyo Grande Chamber of Commerce as it's "Outstanding Citizen" award. She participates as an active member of our Rotary -- as International Service Chair -- and on many different organizations that send care packages, post cards and other things to support our troops overseas. She is a "doer' -- always involved and supporting great causes. She has been associated with the real estate industry for years, but my most recent experience with her has been as my family insurance agent, and the agent that I refer all of my friends and family to when they need a great local agent. She always beats the competition -- and even the internet bids -- because she and her staff don't just look at a client ... more »
Resort & Spa: Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort
Being in my profession, you learn a great deal about amenities and
upgrades in a home and their true value. Meaning, no matter what the
price, if you don't use it, it was too expensive. My parents' trash
compactor is just such an item .... a hot ticket in the 80s and 90s
featured in every custom home of the upper-middleclass and above. Now
you would be hard-pressed to find a home built after 2000 with a trash
compactor standard. But my parents love theirs and use it for all of
their paper recycling! Also in the top five of fad home amenities is the hot tub. While a
staple item in the 70s and 80s it has now become an item that most folks
think they want, and once they have one in their very own backyard,
they never use it. We were just such a couple. When moving back to my
hometown from the Pacific Northwest, we thought we would buy our very
own backyard tub and create a little oasis in this warmer climate. But
after we bought our first local home, we did not have the extra cash ... more »
Testimonial: Mark & Amanda Olson
Ashlea and Kathi sold my house in less a month and made the process extremely easy to go through. Thanks again! ... more »
Restaurant: The Lido at Dolphin Bay
Well I have never written a review of the Lido at Dolphin Bay because it
had all of the makings of a fantastic restaurant ... without the food,
in my opinion. Partly because it was trying to be a little too
"metropolitan" for the area, and partly because it ignored what is going
on all around us -- fantastic, fresh local ingredients. So, with new executive chef Brian Collins (who we were lucky enough to
be introduced to at Sunday Suppers at Los Alamos' Full of Life Flatbread
with Kari Ziegler of Gather Wine Bar), the restaurant has retained the
breathtaking atmosphere but added a new menu to compliment it. Most recently, visiting with new Rotary friends from the Bakersfield
area, we enjoyed cocktails at the bar -- I tried the Cucumber Melon
Martini -- yum. Refreshing start to our dinner! We
were escorted to our corner table over-looking the patio and Sunset
over the Pacific. It was breathtaking ... as we sat and enjoyed our
meal, the darkness was replaced with a view in the other direction of
the Dolphin Bay Pool complete with arching jets of colorfully-lit water
-- making it part pool, part fountain! ... more »
Community Service: GetRotary.org
Every City in the counties of Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Kern have Rotary Clubs organizing great community services projects, contributing to local charities and supporting humanitarian needs of our Region. For decades Rotary's presence and involvement in our region has been a positive impact on the quality of life in our local communities as well as improving the lives of people around the world. And, we remain committed to all that Rotary stands for by placing Service Above Self. There's something that all Rotary club members have in common: We take action. As community volunteers, we reach out to neighbors in need. We build, support, and organize. We save lives. We work locally and globally. more about rotary »
Restaurant: Woodstone Marketplace & Deli
Woodstone Marketplace has become our regular pit-stop as we chase our
speed-demon four year old son down the Bob Jones Trail -- either on
foot, bicycles or scooter. It is like an oasis when we come up from
under the bridge that gives us safe passage to the other side of San
Luis Bay Drive and round the corner through the trees where this quaint
little market with it's adorable outdoor patio peeks out. Owned by
long-time friends of our family the service is consistent and warm. The
menu is perfect for small bites... share a salad or a personal pizza ...
or larger fare as in yummy steak sandwiches and bursting-at-the-seams
wraps. We grab a glass of a local chilled chardonnay that they have open
and ready to go and retire to the pet-friendly patio where my son loves
to greet the neighboring tables with dogs and watch the leisurely Bob
Jones Trail Traffic as it strolls, jogs and zips by. The wait for
fresh-made food is never long and allows us to take our time sipping,
noshing and enjoying the scenery ... more »
